Elmore Stone and Caffey Associate Attorney John Rice is among 12 Knoxville Young Professionals recognized as a Rising Star by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation East Tennessee Chapter. His nomination follows a competitive nomination process, during which applicants are evaluated for leadership qualities, community engagement, and accomplishment in his or her respective field. The Foundation boasts that “those selected are among the most prominent, influential and successful.”
Mr. Rice joins his fellow nominees in commitment to serve as Foundation Ambassadors, raise awareness of cystic fibrosis, and to lead the 2014-2015 Fundraising Campaign. The class of Rising Starts will be honored at a Martinis & Movies Gala, hosted at the prestigious downtown hotel, The Crowne Plaza, on February 21, 2015 hosted by the Knoxville Professional Leaders for a Cure.
Cystic fibrosis affects the respiratory and digestive system of people who are born with the degenerative genetic condition. It occurs in one of every 3,500 live births and about 1,000 new patients are diagnosed each year. Currently, there are approximately 30,000 child and adults in the United States and 70,000 people world-wide who combat this life-threatening disease. More than 1 out of every 30 Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective cystic fibrosis gene. Even though significant progress toward a cure has been accomplished, the lives of young people with cystic fibrosis are still cut short.
